“This weekend will make a really good blog post,” said one of my good friends here, Jen, as we reminisced of the weekend at breakfast this morning. Some call it a shit show, others one long party, we call it Siena Fest.
I truly feel blessed being at such a remarkable school like Siena. Once a year, near the end of the year, SEB gets a band to come to throw a concert. Every day of the weekend is filled with events. Friday night was a battle of the bands of local school bands. There was a survivor contest, a eating contest and a carnival on Saturday. Then the concert starts Saturday night around 8. The events were all fun, but what is really fun with events like this is everything else that happens.
My first Siena Fest started on friday. I had to go to dinner with my grandmother like figure, but before I left I went to the festival. This was when the battle of the bands was happening, in addition there was food laid out and everyone was dressed nice due to the fabulous weather. I sat out just watching the drunks until Emily came.
Emily and I went to dinner and returned around 8. At 8, the festivities began, for me.
I was in Jen’s room with a small group. CJ had a water gun filled with alcohol. He would squirt you a shot. Then we met up with a group of friends outside of one of the dorm buildings. I was at a really good place at this time.
Apparently, a soccer player DJ got permission from the dean to throw a party outside of the Hennepin dorm, the sophomore dorm. This was insane, there was a full hook up of music that he dj-ed and we all just danced. Public Safety was chaperoning, but was not invading or getting anyone in trouble.
I went out with one group and turned into a traveling soul. Jen’s boyfriend came out and she was with him. I had lost Angelina and Brittany. I, at one point, was dancing with this guy named warren. He introduced himself and kept repeating my name so he remembered. We both believed that this was our first time meeting, but I realized the next morning that he wasn’t new.. I have been sitting next to him at every community corp meeting all year.
Next, I ran into some of the people in my FYSM class. This is a full year course that I have become really close with a couple of classmates: Christina and Lauren. I stayed with them and we danced then went inside of another dorm with their friends. There we had a couple of shots and went back outside, after a trip to the bathroom.
I went back out to dance and was with a new friend named Katie. We were dancing and I was dancing with a guy. This turned out to not be the best, and I got annoyed and left Hennepin to go to my room. I was frustrated with Evan.
I had been texting Evan all night because this was my last weekend of trying to become something with him. Prewarning: It failed. We were texting and checking where each other were all night and I made some funny drunken texts. Friday night, he went to bingo instead of to the party-thing I was at. He answered me when bingo ended and I was in my room. I invited him up but 5 minutes before he got to my room grace came in with her guy.
Grace had been a little over-served and Greg was taking care of her. She started puking so I left and went to the bathroom before meeting with Evan. There I ran into an RA, but I didn’t realize she was an RA until after I complained that my roommate was puking in my room. She started questioning me and I avoided her questions because I knew I would have gotten grace in trouble. Instead, I ran away saying I am not going to tell you! haha This might be my proudest moment of the weekend.. So funny.
I met up with Evan and we walked around campus and got the free snacks and such. He walked me back to my room and hugged me. This was a big deal in my mind for a little bit, but no longer do I care.
Saturday, I woke up still drunk. I went to saga with one of my very catholic friends, which was funny. She laughed at my idiocy. After, I laid in bed and read my book until Jen got back from her field trip. Together we got ready and went out in the nice weather to the carnival. This was a lot of fun. We were just hanging out outside until the parties started around 4.
We went downstairs to 1e, which is where all of our good guy friends live. Then, the party outside of Hennepin started back up. We went outside with everyone and continued to return for the bathroom and drinks. By 7 we had accumulated all of our friends and were having a blast dancing around. We went down to the concert, and I am so not a fan of concerts
For me, concerts are too loud and sweaty. I particularly did not like this one because everyone was in jerk moods and no one wanted to dance with me (I am not the only one that felt this way) I, again, jumped from friend group to group because I just didn’t feel like I belonged. Once the feeling really sunk in, I decided it would be smart to just leave and go back to my room.
Evan was working the concert so I had him text me when he was done. I walked back by myself but ran into Kami when I got back. She had felt the same vibes from the concert. I laid in bed until Grace got back. Her best friend, Taylor, had had an awful night.
She walked into her room in the morning to find puke in her bed and on her pillows, her room covered in food and her clothes all over the place. She got hit in the jaw midday by a door and her boyfriend got mad that she was being over dramatic. She came into her room with two girls making out in her bed, she didn’t know either of them. Yesterday was not her day.
Grace, Taylor, and I just vented about our frustrations of the day and just hung out for a little bit, I have really enjoyed having her as a roommate.. it will be weird living with someone else.
Overall: I had a pretty great weekend. One that I will not be forgetting, ever. It was really nice to just relax all weekend. Now that it is Sunday it is time to do work before the week starts again. I am curious to see how next weekend turns out!
